One of the largest operating convents in Cyprus is located in the Vavla vicinity. This is the convent of Agios Minas and it is located just 2 km east of Vavla along the road leading to the village of Kato Drys. It was abandoned for many years and had become a stable.
In 1964 it was inhabited by nuns who came from St. George of Alamanos. The nuns managed to restore it with the help of the public and St.Minas himself according to their belief.
St. Minas is celebrated on November 11. Pilgrims and visitors from all over Cyprus come to attend the service and a big festival held on the grounds of the convent.
